Infrastructure that keeps up with the business: only possible when the foundation is solid
PRO DATA is an Italian software company that needed to modernize its infrastructure. The starting point: accumulated, heterogeneous infrastructure with no clear scaling strategy, manual backup processes, and no Disaster Recovery planning. The fragility of an infrastructure often only becomes apparent when something fails.
CCsolutions took on the complete design and implementation of a modern, cloud-native infrastructure based on Kubernetes on the Syseleven platform.
Challenge: modernization without operational interruption
The requirements for the new infrastructure were clear:
- Scalability: Resources must be available on demand, with no over-provisioning and no bottlenecks
- Automated backup: No manual intervention for data backups, reliable, regular, and verifiable
- Disaster Recovery: Defined RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) values
- Simplified management: A single team should be able to manage the entire infrastructure with manageable effort
- Secure access: Remote access to infrastructure tools without VPN complexity
The migration had to take place without interrupting ongoing operations.
Solution: Kubernetes on Syseleven with a complete backup stack
CCsolutions designed a cloud-native infrastructure addressing all requirements.
Kubernetes on Syseleven: Syseleven was chosen as the platform. It is a German cloud provider with data centers in Germany that guarantees GDPR compliance and data sovereignty. All PRO DATA workloads run in Kubernetes containers, managed as Kubernetes deployments.
Terraform for reproducible infrastructure: The entire Syseleven infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters, networks, and storage, is managed through Terraform code. Infrastructure changes are reviewed, versioned, and can be reproduced at any time.
Helm Charts for application management: All applications are deployed via Helm Charts. Standard deployments become parameterizable, upgrades are controlled and rollback-capable.
Automated backup to Syseleven Object Storage: Backup strategies were implemented with Syseleven Object Storage as the target. Regular, automated backups of all relevant data and Kubernetes state, with verified restore tests.
Grafana for observability: Centralized monitoring of all cluster metrics, application performance, and backup status via Grafana. Alerts on anomalies before they escalate to outages.
CloudFlare Access for secure access: Instead of VPN infrastructure, PRO DATA uses CloudFlare Access for secure, identity-based access to internal tooling interfaces (Grafana, Kubernetes Dashboard, etc.). Simpler and more secure, without a VPN client.
Results: modern infrastructure with full control
- On-demand scalability: Kubernetes scales workloads automatically based on demand
- Automated backup: Daily backups without manual intervention, with regular restore tests
- Disaster Recovery: Defined RTO/RPO values, documented and tested
- Simplified management: A small team manages the entire infrastructure via Terraform and Helm
- Secure access: CloudFlare Access for all internal tools, without VPN complexity
- GDPR-compliant: All data in German data centers (Syseleven)

Summary
For PRO DATA, the modernization was more than an infrastructure upgrade. It was a shift from reactive operations ("we respond when something breaks") to proactive operations ("we know before something breaks"). Automated backup and tested Disaster Recovery are operational essentials, not optional additions.
